Illinois will host Nebraska, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Northwestern at Memorial Stadium in 2015.
June 3, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Big Ten office announced the conference schedule for the 2015 football season Monday, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2015 schedule is a reverse of the 2014 slate that was announced in May, consisting of eight games for each of the Big Ten's 14 teams.
Illinois will face West Division foes Nebraska (Oct. 3), Wisconsin (Oct. 24) and Northwestern (Nov. 28) at home, and will travel to Iowa (Oct. 10), Purdue (Nov. 7) and Minnesota (Nov. 21). The Fighting Illini's two cross-division foes from the East are the same as in 2014, with the location switching. In 2015, the Orange and Blue will travel to Penn State for a Halloween matchup on Oct. 31 and will host Ohio State on Nov. 14.
Beginning in 2014, the Big Ten football division alignments will feature Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in the East Division and Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin in the West Division. Each school will play the other six schools in its division plus two teams from the other division in 2014 and 2015, which will serve as transitional years in which the schools will still be playing eight-game schedules. Beginning in 2016, each school will play three teams from the other division as part of its nine-game schedule. The cross-division games will include one protected matchup on an annual basis between Indiana and Purdue.
Illinois had previously announced two nonconference games for 2015, home against Kent State on Sept. 12 and home against Western Illinois on Sept. 19. Two games have yet to be scheduled. There are three possible dates for the two remaining games: Sept. 5, Sept. 26 and Oct. 17.
