CHAMPAIGN, IL - Fans and supporters of the Fighting Illini can help fund scholarships through the University of Illinois I FUND by entering the inaugural "I" Run Chicago and Team Challenge, a new competitive 8K fundraising event on Sunday, Sept. 16, in Chicago's Lincoln Park.
Open to all runners, organizers are also encouraging UI alumni and competitors from other Big Ten schools (as well as other colleges/universities) to form "Team Challenge" running teams composed of five or more runners to heighten the spirited competition. Groups can be formed in three categories: men, women or co-ed.
"The inaugural "I" Run through the Lincoln Park neighborhood will be an outstanding way to show off the Orange and Blue support of our fans in Chicago," Mike Thomas said. "The team challenge should be especially competitive and add another level of excitement to the event. This is a terrific opportunity for our fans to show off their pride and support the IFUND at the same time."
Start time and location for the "I" Run are at 9 am outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum near Fullerton and Cannon Drive. It also features a post-race party inside the museum. Per-person registration costs are $30 for sign up prior to July 1, $35 up to Sept. 16 and $40 at the site on race day. To register/learn more visit chicagoevents.com or call 773-868-3010.
Proceeds from the event will go to the I FUND, which raises more than $8 million annually to fund scholarships for more than 500 Fighting Illini student-athletes in 19 varsity sports each year.
