Illini Coaches Hit The Links With QB Club
May 21, 2008
Tuesday afternoon was a time of fun and golf for the Illinois football coaching staff as they joined 114 participants at Stone Creek Golf Course for the annual Quarterback Club outing. Playing in groups of six, the golfers packed the Urbana course on a sunny, but breezy May day.
All coaches and staff were in attendance, although some opted not to exhibit their golfing skills. Coach Ron Zook spent his time cruising the course to meet and greet each six-some.
After the golf, the participants were treated to an steak dinner by Outback followed by an auction of items, which included packages to road games, season tickets, honorary coach passes, a day spent with the coaching staff and 2008 Rose Bowl gear.
The annual golf outing is one of the major fundraisers held by the Illini Quarterback Club, which, in its 67th year, is the official booster group for the Illinois football team. The club donates approximately $40,000 each year to the team to support the scholarship program and serve as a resource for special needs. The group also holds weekly luncheons before home games and hosts the Ron Zook Radio Show before away games. The club sponsors motorcoach trips to away games, which include transporation, lodging, and game tickets. During the summer it offers a Ladies Day luncheon. At the commencement of fall practice, the club opens the season with a Fan Appreciation Day where the members can meet players and coaches.
For those interested in joining the Quarterback Club, membership is just $50 per year for a single person/family (add $6 for each new badge requested) and $250 for corporate membership. Special arrangements can be made for sponsorships. To reach the club, fans may call its hotline at 217-366-3501.
