CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- University of Illinois head football coach Tim Beckman will visit the city of Monticello on May 29 as a result of Piatt County winning last fall's Paint the State Orange contest.
Beckman will sign autographs, take pictures and visit with fans at the Monticello Community Building (102 E. Livingston St.) from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. The first 100 kids will receive a free mini football provided by the Monticello Chamber of Commerce. The event is free and open to the public.
During the 2012 football season, the Paint the State Orange contest was a way for Illinois fans to declare their county as Illini territory. The more submissions a county received, the more orange it became on the Paint the State Orange map. As the county with the most submissions per capita, Piatt County earned the spring visit from Coach Beckman. A gallery of Paint the State Orange photos submitted through the contest can be found on the Fighting Illini Athletics Facebook page.
The Fighting Illini have seven home games on 2013, starting with the season-opener at Memorial Stadium against Southern Illinois on Aug. 31. Season tickets are on sale now.
