May 13, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the start times for this year's Homecoming games on Tuesday. Illinois' Homecoming matchup with Minnesota on Saturday, Oct. 25, will start at 11 a.m. CT. Television information for the Illini-Gophers matchup will be announced at a later date.
This year will mark the 104th Homecoming at the University of Illinois. The Fighting Illini are 44-57-2 all-time on Homecoming, dating back to 1910, a 3-0 win over Chicago. The University of Illinois boasts being one of the first universities to celebrate Homecoming, a tradition on almost every college campus. It was conceived in 1909 by students C.F. Williams and W. Elmer Ekblaw, members of the Shield and Trident senior society. They joined with another society, Phoenix, to organize the three-day event.
Illinois now has three 2014 game times set, as the Sept. 27 game at Nebraska (8 p.m. CDT) and Nov. 1 game at Ohio State (7 p.m. CDT) were both previously announced as primetime games.
The Fighting Illini will again play seven home games in 2014, including three in the month of September and a Big Ten slate of Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa and Penn State at Memorial Stadium. This year marks the first season of East-West divisional play in the Big Ten Conference. Illinois is in the Big Ten West division along with Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin. Season tickets are on sale now for as low as $99.
