April 12, 2008
The Fighting Illini held their first of two major scrimmages of the spring today in Lemont, Ill., home of early enrollee/freshman lineman Graham Pocic. An enthusiastic crowd took advantage of the opportunity to grab a sneak peak at the 2008 version of the Orange and Blue in the Chicago area.
The defense is still ahead of the offense at this point, although the offense came up with a couple of big plays, a 37-yard pass from Juice Williams to Michael Hoomanawanui and a 57-yard run by Eddie McGee. On the other side of the ball Dere Hicks picked off two passes and Miami Thomas had an interception of his own.
The Fighting Illini wind up spring drills this coming week with practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and the spring game at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, which kicks off at 1 p.m. CT.
