The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the dates of its Chicagoland and Champaign 2008 spring football games. Coach Ron Zook's squad will head to Lemont High School in the Chicago area April 12 and host its final game in Champaign April 19 at Memorial Stadium. Both game times are set for 1 p.m. The DIA also announced that fan voting for the Top-10 all-time Fighting Illini players at each of position will begin Monday, March 24 on fightingillini.com. Those players selected will be invited back for the 2008 home opener against Eastern Illinois.

The spring game set for April 12 at Lemont High School marks the second consecutive year Zook has taken his squad to the Chicagoland area, following a 2007 April trip to St. Rita High School. One week later, Zook's team will finish the spring season with the annual Champaign spring game at Memorial Stadium on April 19.

Online fan voting for the Top-10 all-time greatest Fighting Illini football players who played at Memorial Stadium by position will begin on Monday, March 24. The eight positions will include quarterback, running back, receiver, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, defensive back, and specialist. Online voting will continue on fightingillini.com until Thursday, April 10.

Players appear on the ballot if they earned first or second-team All-Big Ten honors or if they played at least four years in the National Football League. Additional names have been added to the list of specialists to round out that group.

Harold "Red" Grange, Dick Butkus, Tony Eason, Jeff George, Howard Griffith, Kevin Hardy, Dana Howard, Ray Nitschke, Rashard Mendenhall and J Leman will be among the names fans can support for this tremendous distinction. The online vote will play a substantial role in determining the membership in this group. Illinois will make every effort to have as many members of this elite group appear on the field Sept. 6 as part of the Illinois Renaissance Celebration.

The Top-10 selections representing each position will be announced on fightingillini.com on the following dates:
