Illini Football Heading to Chicago for Spring Practice on Friday
March 11, 2014
CHAMPAIGN, IL - Illinois football coach Tim Beckman will take the Fighting Illini football team to historic Gately Stadium (810 E 103rd St, Chicago) on Chicago's South Side Friday, March 14, from 5:30-7:45 pm for their sixth spring practice of the year. The entire practice is open to the public and media.
A decision will be made Friday morning should weather issues cause a change in plans.
"After the outstanding response we got last year when we took a practice to Gately, it was an absolute no-brainer to do it again," Beckman said. "It's a great opportunity for family members of Chicago-area kids, along with coaches and high school student-athletes from around the area to come and experience how we practice. We've gotten off to a really good start with this group, and this will be like taking the team on a road game and changing things up a bit."
College football teams can have 15 practices in the spring. Illinois will conclude the spring practice schedule with the annual Orange and Blue Spring Game on Saturday, April 12, at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.
