Spring Football Update: March 7
March 7, 2014
The Fighting held their second practice of the Spring on Friday morning inside the Irwin Indoor Practice Complex. Though the team would love to get outside, morning temperatures in the 30s kept the Illini indoors for the second straight practice.
"I thought it was very competitive," Illini head coach Tim Beckman said of Friday's practice. "I think we're continuing to improve in all facets. I'm impress with how hard they're working."
After two practices in shorts and helmets, the Illini will don full pads for the first time on Saturday.
"I can't wait," Beckman said when asked if he's excited about the first day in pads. "We've got a drill called the gauntlet that has some one-on-ones and then we've got the alley drill where the ball is on the 10-yard line and you've got to get off the blocks."
