Illini Post Strong Numbers at NFL Combine

INDIANAPOLIS - Four former University of Illinois players showcased their talents over the last few days at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. Illini offensive tackle Jeff Allen, kicker Derek Dimke, wide receiver A.J. Jenkins and defensive end Whitney Mercilus all had strong performances in front of hundreds of NFL scouts, coaches and general managers in preparation for the 2012 NFL Draft, which will take place April 26-28 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
Jenkins ran a blazing 4.39 40-yard dash to rank fourth among receivers and sixth among all players at the combine. Jenkins also ranked in the top-10 in vertical leap (38.5 inches - seventh among WR) and broad jump (10'4" - eighth among WR). Mercilus, an early entrant, had an impressive 40 time of 4.68, fourth-best among defensive linemen and also was a top performer in the broad jump (9'10" - eighth among DL) and three-cone drill (7.17 seconds - 13th among DL).
Allen was among the offensive line top performers in the 40-yard dash (5.28 - 15th among OL) and the broad jump (8'6" - 14th among OL). Dimke did not participate in individual drills, but did kick for scouts at the Combine.
