QUOTING ILLINOIS HEAD COACH Ron Zook...

On the game...
"We did not play the way we're capable of playing. At halftime, we had a chance to make a ballgame of it. We should have gotten points in that last series of the first half. We were able to get the ball back in the first series of the third quarter, then there was a fumble there. We just didn't get back on track offensively. A little bit of that has to do with their defense, but in order for us to be successful and for us to win games, we are going to have to play."

On hope for the season...
"We have to get it fixed, but there is still a lot of football to be played. Two years ago, we lost two games in the Big Ten and went to the Rose Bowl. We have a monumental task in front of us and it starts next week. We have to go to work."

On Juice's day (becoming total offense leader)...
I don't think anybody feels worse about it than Juice. Congratulations to him because he is that total leader, but he would turn all of those yards back in for the opportunity to play the way we all know he can play and for this thing to go the way it's supposed to go. He threw some nice balls and did a nice job running the football, but again, there were some things we didn't get connected.

On staying out of bad situations...
"That's the frustrating thing. We took the ball from our own five-yard line and then we were in position to get some points and did not. We did the same thing last week and we have to get it fixed. There is no question there. It's a number of things and it is our job as coaches to get it fixed.

On keeping Juice in the game...
"I wanted to see if he could play himself out of it and go. He did some nice things, he kept fighting and in that last series, he got down there and threw some nice balls and took it in himself. We talking about switching him out, but I wanted to give him the chance to play himself out of it.

On work to do before playing Michigan State...
On keeping Juice in the game...

QUOTING ILLINOIS PLAYERS:

Wide Receiver Arrelious Benn

On starting 1-3...
"It's been tough, but we're in the Big Ten. We have a lot more ballgames to play. We lost three the Rose Bowl year. We just have to take care of business."

On what is happening on the field...
"We're not playing to our level. We just have to keep going, keep looking forward, and stay positive. If we think negative, that's where the season ends. We're not going to let that happen. As a leader, I'm not going to let that happen."

On the offense being out of rhythm...
"We're trying to get in a rhythm on offense. Coach Schultz is doing his best to call the right plays. We're doing the best we can to execute them. At the end of the day, we're going to be OK."

DE Clay Nurse

On frustration setting in...
"It's not creeping in, because if that happens to you, you start losing focus of the target. We don't let that happen to each other. We keep our eyes on the target."

On momentum swings throughout the game...
"They're going to get a couple things on you. You're going to get a couple things on them. I think we've been making progress, but you have to finish the game."

DT Josh Brent

On giving up 200 yards...
"If you give up 200 yards, it's very discouraging, but it's something you have to put behind you and use as motivation for the next game to not let it happen again."

On starting 1-3...
"The year we went to the Rose Bowl we lost two league games and had one nonconference loss. We could be in the same situation to run the table if we get guys on board and believing."

On the first half...
"If you looked at the way we played, the scoreboard exhibited how well we played going into halftime, especially against a team of this caliber, a team who is picked to win or get second in this league. Seven points in the first half is phenomenal."

Quarterback Juice Williams

On playing two top Big Ten teams to start off...
"Going to Ohio State is a hostile environment. We got blanked, but we came back and learned from it and put up some points this week. It's a lot to learn. The success you have - especially toward the end of the game - that momentum is with you rolling into the next week. I think that's what we established today."

On where the team is...
"We're not to the point we want to be, but we know we're so much more than we're showing. The team will bounce back, ready to go, with our heads up."

QUOTING PENN STATE HEAD COACH JOE PATERNO

On the running game...
"Obviously I was pleased, but I wish we could be more consistent at times. Earlier in the year we would do things well for a half, but this time we ran the ball fairly well the whole ball game. I was glad to see it. The kids were challenged. We were embarrassed last week because we didn't do that good of a job. But it was good to see."

On the running game being a big part of the gameplan...
"We've always had that. Last week we didn't get a chance or really any opportunity to do it. I've been very scared about Evan (Royster) getting hurt. The longer we go, the better the other kids are and we can take a couple more chances."

On the defense...
"I think overall, with the exception of one or two plays, the secondary was solid. I think that kid is a heck of a football player, that #7 (Juice Williams).

On adjustments made at halftime...
"The main thing was not to look down. It was our ball, we knew that, because we won the toss in the first half and deferred. We just had to go out there and put an end to all this stuff about how we are a one-half football team."

On whether LB Sean Lee will play next week...
"That's a day-by-day thing. I don't know. He suited up because he is an emotional leader on the team. He can help us, he's coaching on the sidelines and he's coaching the linebackers all the time."

On QB Darryl Clark...
"Darryl rarely says 'We should throw the ball more' or 'we should run more'. He's a team player. I think he showed he could run, we always knew he could run. We will probably take more chances with Clark as we go along."

On offensive line...
"I thought they were unfairly criticized for a couple of games because of the fact that the defenses were loading up against the running game. I thought they did well today and I think we had a more balanced attack.

QUOTING PENN STATE PLAYERS:

QB Darryl Clark

On the success of the offense...
"We were able to execute and convert on some third downs, and it allowed us to relax and just go out and play."

On bouncing back from a tough loss to Iowa...
"I was very proud of everybody for putting the loss that we had last week behind us as quickly as we did. This was definitely a must-win for us, especially going on the road, after having what happened to us last week."

On what the team found out about itself this week...
"We all banded together and said 'forget everything else, forget everyone else, lets just go play Penn State Football.'"

RB Stephfon Green

On the running game...
"They (offensive line) opened up a lot of holes for us today."

On his 52-yard touchdown run...
"That's all I'm thinking: touchdown. I'm not going to let anyone stop me."

On splitting carries with Evan Royster...
"I don't expect anything. I just come in here and I play my role. Anything the coaches ask me to do, I'm going to do. They asked me to get some first downs today and I took whatever I had and got the yards."

DT Jarod Odrick-

On the defense forcing Illinois QB Juice Williams to intentionally ground the ball at the end of the first half...
"In tight games, those plays are going to make a difference."

On bouncing back after the tough loss to Iowa...
"We just came on the road and had a big win after a loss. You know we bounce back. We could have easily plummeted and lost to this Illinois team, but we didn't. We stepped up we got a win. That's what we need to do every week. We need to step up and get one more win every week. That's what we are looking forward to doing."
