Jeff Guin spent five seasons as an academic counselor at Illinois (2008-13), including two working with the football team (2011 & 2012). He served as an academic counselor for men's basketball from 2008-11 before moving to football in the summer of 2011.
Prior to coming to Illinois in 2008, Guin was an assistant men's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University for two seasons, where is main duties included working with the post players, recruiting in Florida and the Midwest, serving as staff contact for Roundballer's Club, overseeing budget issues, and scheduling. He also spent three seasons as an assistant basketball coach at Western Illinois from 2003-06. His primary duties at WIU were recruiting, individual instruction, scouting, team travel and academic advising.
Guin served in an administrative role with the University of Illinois men's basketball program from 1997 to 2003, where he concentrated his efforts on scouting, tape exchange, day-to-day office operations, and directing the Illini summer basketball camps. He helped Illinois to five NCAA Tournament appearances under former coaches Lon Kruger and Bill Self, three Big Ten titles (1998, 2001, 2002) and a Big Ten Tournament title in 2003. The Illini's five NCAA Tournament appearances included both Elite Eight and Sweet 16 berths.
Prior to beginning his coaching career at Illinois, Guin served as a student manager at the University of Florida for both Lon Kruger (1993-96) and Billy Donovan (1996-97). Under Kruger, Guin helped the Gators to a Final Four trip in 1994 and an NCAA Tournament berth in 1995.
Guin completed three degrees during his time at Florida - a bachelor's degree in education in 1995, a master's in education in 1996, and a master's in sport management in 1997. Prior to attending Florida he played two years at Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, FL, where he earned Academic All-America NJCAA Region 8 honors in 1992 and 1993.
Originally from Fort Walton Beach, FL, Guin and his wife, Betsy, are the parents of twins, Troy Michael and Ellee Jane, born December 27, 2005.
