Series Notes: Vanderbilt
This is the eighth meeting between Illinois and Vanderbilt, with the Fighting Illini owning a 4-3 edge in the all-time series. The teams last met during the second round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah, an 85-68 Vanderbilt victory. This is the third game between the squads at Memorial Gymnasium. Illinois won the most recent match-up in Nashville, 69-55, on Dec. 6, 1983.
Friends Square Off on the Sidelines
Bruce Weber considers Kevin Stallings one of his closest friends in the coaching profession. Stallings was a player at Purdue when Weber came to West Lafayette as an assistant coach with former Boilermaker head coach Gene Keady. Weber and Stallings were then assistants together for six seasons at Purdue under Keady (1983-88), helping lead the Boilers to six NCAA Tournament appearances and three Big Ten championships.
They also coached against each other twice during the 1999 season, when Stallings was in his final year at Illinois State and Weber was in his first year at Southern Illinois. Weber's Salukis won both match-ups in 1999, and this is their first time facing each other since that year.
Last Time Out: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

During that run, Texas A&M-CC was 1-15 from the field, which included a scoreless stretch of longer than 10 minutes.

Notes From Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
In addition to the Islanders' 12 first-half points marking the lowest scoring half in Texas A&M-CC school history, it also was just two points shy of the fewest ever scored in a half at Assembly Hall (record is 10 by Southern Mississippi on Dec. 3, 1984).
Mike Davis posted his first career double-double with his career highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. It was the first 20-10 game by an Illini since Rodney Alexander had 20 points and 11 rebounds at Ohio State last season (Jan. 22, 2008). Davis' 14 boards, meanwhile, were the most by an Illini since Shaun Pruitt had 15 rebounds vs. Miami-OH last year (Dec. 20, 2007).
In his second game in an Illini uniform, Dominique Keller reached double figures for the first time, scoring 11 points in 15 minutes.
Jeff Jordan had a career-best four assists while playing a career-high 16 minutes.
Illinois recorded 22 assists on its 27 baskets, an assists-to-field goals percentage of better than 81 percent. Illinois' 22 assists were its highest total since recording 23 vs. Arizona last season (Dec. 8, 2007).
The Illini shot 81.3 percent from the free throw line (13-16). Included in that impressive figure was 12-13 accuracy in the second half (92.3 percent).
