Illini Hold Open Practice and Scrimmage
Oct. 15, 2011
Champaign, Ill. - Illinois tipped off the 2011-12 basketball season by holding an open practice and scrimmage Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 4,000 at the Assembly Hall. After the doors opened at Noon, fans watched the Illini in various practice drills. Three scrimmage periods followed, the first two lasting five minutes each and the final going six minutes. Junior D.J. Richardson was the leading scorer in the scrimmage, totaling 11 points. Senior Sam Maniscalco, meanwhile, scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. Following the scrimmage, the Illini concluded practice with its daily "play hard drill" where each player goes through a series of defensive rotations, draws a charge and tracks down a loose ball.
Illinois next returns to the Assembly Hall on Sunday, Oct. 23 for the annual Orange & Blue scrimmage, set for a 4 pm start. Following the scrimmage, the Illini will sign autographs for approximately 45 minutes. Seating is general admission, tickets are only $10 each and can be purchased here.
