Fighting Illini Put on a Show at Street Jam
Sept. 29, 2013
The Illinois basketball teams put on a show at Illini Street Jam Saturday night. Illini nation came out in full force for the unique season kick-off event, which was held on an Illini-themed flex court at the intersection of Green St. and Wright St. in heart of Campustown.
The event started with the men's and women's teams rolling up in a military truck and men's coach John Groce, in full military fatigues, running both teams through Seal Team Physical Training drills. Then both teams took part in interactive games and competitions with fans before finishing with a crowd-pleasing dunk contest, which was won by senior Joseph Bertrand.
Illini Street Jam capped off a busy day for @IlliniAthletics on Dads Weekend. The football team started the day off with a 50-14 drubbing of Miami (OH) and then No. 24 volleyball fell to No. 12 Nebraska before the orange mob of fans moved to Campustown to get their first look at this year's basketball teams.
