Champaign, Ill. - College basketball practice begins in less than one month, and Fighting Illini fans are showing strong interest in the upcoming season. The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) announced today that membership in Orange Krush, the student support group of Illini basketball, has topped 1,000. That is a 61 percent increase in membership. The figure will continue to increase as Krush officers wrap up the registration process.

"It's great to hear that Orange Krush will be more than 1,000 members strong this year," head coach Bruce Weber said. "We all know how important our students are in creating an outstanding environment and home-court advantage for us. Our players look to our student section as the sixth man on the court, so we want to have as many students as possible packing Assembly Hall this year."

UI students not joining Krush still have the opportunity to purchase season tickets. They are on sale for $134, which covers a total of 12 games and the Orange & Blue Scrimmage. Student season tickets will be allocated based on a priority points system. Students interested in ordering season tickets should fill out the form available here or in person at the Athletics Ticket Office located at Assembly Hall. The deadline to turn in student season ticket order forms and be seated based on priority point ranking is Sept. 18. Non-priority student season tickets will be on-sale through Oct. 30, or while supplies last.

In addition to the increase in student numbers, the DIA has announced a 92 percent renewal rate for public season tickets. That number could increase as the ticket office continues its communication with last year's season ticket holders.

"We are very pleased with the public season ticket renewal rate, which is currently at 92 percent. That is one of the highest numbers I've seen around the country," said Jason Heggemeyer, Assistant Athletics Director for Ticket Operations. "It's a testament to our loyal fans and shows the passion there is for Illinois basketball and the excitement everyone has for the upcoming season."

For those interested in buying season tickets for the first time, a limited number of C-level tickets are now on sale for new season ticket holders. They can be purchased by phone (1-866-ILLINI1 or 217-333-3470) or in person at the Assembly Hall North Ticket Office. Season tickets cover all 18 home games (two exhibition, seven non-conference and nine Big Ten) and the scrimmage.
