Champaign, Ill. -
Deron Williams hosted the second annual Illini Hoop Legends for Charity Dinner and Auction Friday night at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign, followed by a Golf Classic Saturday afternoon at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana. The events, part of the Deron Williams Point of Hope Foundation, raised money for local charities as well as the Illini Men's Basketball Program.
Dave Downey and Mannie Jackson were honored as the first recipients of the Jerry Colangelo Award, given to former Illini players who have gone on to success after their playing career. The dinner also featured a tribute to the Flyin' Illini squad that advanced to the 1989 Final Four.
The weekend events raised a total of $65,000. Williams awarded $50,000 to the I FUND and $5,000 each to Luthean Social Services of Illinois, Crisis Nursery of Urbana-Champaign, and Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club.
