CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Illinois will visit Aviano Air Base on Aug. 17 during its international tour trip to Italy. West Virginia's basketball team, who also will be touring Italy at the same time, will join the Fighting Illini. While at the base, the Illini and Mountaineers will hold a youth clinic for families of the troops, a dunk contest, and plan to scrimmage against the base's varsity squad. The visit will conclude with the Illini and Mountaineers facing each other in a short exhibition scrimmage.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to visit the Aviano Air Base and thank the great men and women who are serving there," Head Coach Bruce Weber said. "Our players will get a firsthand look at the hard work and dedicated service they are providing for our freedom. We can never thank them enough for what they are doing for us, but our visit and the youth clinic and scrimmages should provide a fun and rewarding experience for everyone. We are pleased that the NCAA has approved the request for our team to partner with West Virginia while overseas for this special event, which I believe has never been done before."

The Fighting Illini depart for Europe on Aug. 10 and will return to the United States on Aug. 20. For full coverage of the team's tour of Italy, visit FightingIllini.com
