Champaign, Ill. - Illinois fans can get a sneak peek at the future of Fighting Illini basketball this weekend, as freshmen Malcolm Hill, Kendrick Nunn and Jaylon Tate will play in the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) All-Star Game Saturday at the Shirk Center on the Illinois Wesleyan campus in Bloomington. The trio will participate in the 3A/4A game at approximately 7 p.m., with Nunn and Tate on the North roster and Hill on the South squad.
Hill, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound wing, averaged 25.3 points and 6.1 rebounds last season at Belleville East High School. He earned first-team All-State honors by the Associated Press, finished third in voting for Illinois Mr. Basketball, and was the St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro Player of the Year.
Nunn, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard, averaged 14.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists during his senior season at Chicago's Simeon High School, helping lead the Wolverines to a fourth-consecutive state championship. Nunn was a second-team Associated Press All-State selection.
Tate, a 6-foot-3, 160-pound point guard, teamed with Nunn to help guide Simeon to the 2013 state title in class 4A. Tate averaged 8.3 points and led the Wolverines in assists with an average of 7.3 apg to earn second-team All-State honors by the Champaign News-Gazette.
Prior to the IBCA Class 3A/4A All-Star Game, the Class 1A/2A All-Star Game will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at the door at the Shirk Center.
