Tisdale Added to USA Basketball World University Games Trials Roster

Champaign, Ill. - University of Illinois center Mike Tisdale (Riverton, Ill.) and University of Arizona guard Nic Wise (Houston, Texas) have accepted invitations to attend the 2009 USA Men's World University Games Team Trials June 16-18 in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball announced today.
Tisdale, who was named to the 2009 NABC All-District 7 second team, earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors after averaging 10.2 ppg. and 4.0 rpg last season. He replaces Illini forward Mike Davis on the trials roster. Davis withdrew from the camp after suffering a broken left ankle on June 9.
The World University Games is organized by the International University Sports Federation and held every other year. The 2009 men's basketball competition will take place July 2-11 in Belgrade, Serbia, with 26 men's teams expected to compete for gold. Eligible athletes for the USA team must be currently enrolled in a college or university and have remaining NCAA athletic eligibility.
Previously announced participants for the 2009 USA Men's World University Games Team Trials were: James Anderson (Oklahoma State / Junction City, Ark.); Talor Battle (Penn State / Albany, N.Y.); Trevor Booker (Clemson / Whitmire, S.C.); Craig Brackins (Iowa State / Palmdale, Calif.); Da'Sean Butler (West Virginia / Newark, N.J.); Sherron Collins (Kansas / Chicago, Ill.); Corey Fisher (Villanova / Bronx, N.Y.); Lazar Hayward (Marquette / Buffalo, N.Y.); Robbie Hummel (Purdue / Valparaiso, Ind.); JaJuan Johnson (Purdue / Indianapolis, Ind.); Dominique Jones (USF / Lake Wales, Fla.); Quincy Pondexter (Washington / Fresno, Calif.); Deon Thompson (North Carolina / Torrance, Calif.); Evan Turner (Ohio State / Chicago, Ill.); and Jarvis Varnado (Mississippi State / Brownsville, Tenn.).
University of Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan has been selected by USA Basketball to serve as head coach of the 2009 USA Men's World University Games Team. Ryan's two assistant coaches will be collegiate head coaches Frank Haith of the University of Miami and Rob Jeter of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
The 2009-2012 Men's Junior National Team Committee is chaired by Jim Boeheim, head coach at Syracuse University, and includes NCAA appointees Illinois Head Coach Bruce Weber, Lorenzo Romar (head coach, University of Washington); Roy Williams (head coach, University of North Carolina); and athlete representative Jay Williams, a member of the 2002 USA Basketball World Championship Team.
