May 29, 2012
Enrollment is underway for the inaugural John Groce Fighting Illini Summer Basketball Camps, scheduled throughout the month of June on the University of Illinois campus.
Camps get underway with two parent/child camps on June 8-9 and June 9-10. Day camp will be held June 11-14, followed by a pair of individual camps June 20-23 and June 24-27.
Parent/child camps are open to boys and girls age 6 to entering 9th grade in Fall 2012, accompanied by a parent or guardian. Cost is $185 per resident pair ($95 for each additional camper) or $155 per commuter pair ($80 for each additional camper).
Day camp is open to boys entering grades 3-8 in Fall 2012. This is a commuter camp with a cost of $180 (bring your own lunch) or $195 (lunch included).
Individual camps are open to boys age 8 to entering 12th grade in Fall 2012. Cost is $350 for residents or $290 for commuters.
All camps include instruction and interaction with the Illinois coaching staff and Illini players. The individual and day camps typically employ additional staff from high schools, universities and colleges from across the state. There will be an emphasis on teaching basketball fundamentals and skill development through drills, as well as a number of games, contests and guest speakers.
Coach Groce is unable to attend this year's parent/child camps due to a previous and immovable scheduling conflict. His assistant coaches as well as a number of Illini players, however, will work the parent/child camps to ensure that they are a success, and Coach Groce will be in attendance at the day camp as well as both individual camps.
