2011 Fighting Illini Caravan Dates Set
April 11, 2011
The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will be hosting the Fighting Illini Caravan 2011 at 10 cities during the month of May. The Caravan begins May 3 with stops in St. Louis and Effingham and ends in Champaign on May 26, with stops in the Quad Cities, Rockford, Springfield, Decatur, Chicago, Peoria and Bloomington in between.
Illini basketball coach Bruce Weber, football coach Ron Zook and Director of Athletics Ron Guenther will all be featured speakers on the Caravan, which will allow Fighting Illini fans an opportunity for autographs and a relaxed atmosphere to preview Illini sports heading into the 2011-12 school year.
"We're excited to bring back the Caravan stops to the state of Illinois and St. Louis, and provide our staff the opportunity to interact with our most loyal and ardent supporters," said Steve Greene, Director of Development. "Fighting Illini fans are the best and most loyal fans in the nation, and Coach Zook and Coach Weber are very appreciative of their support. Our hope is that each venue is filled with Orange and Blue to hear what is on the horizon for Fighting Illini athletics."
Current and former student-athletes will be involved with the Caravan stops whenever possible, and the group will also be making a Hometown Heroes community service visit while in each of the communities.
Specific details about each Caravan stop and how to register online will be available at FightingIllini.com beginning April 15.
