Randle Competes in Dunk Contest and All-Star Game at Final Four
April 5, 2008
San Antonio, Texas - Senior Brian Randle closed out his career at the University of Illinois by competing in a pair of Final Four events in San Antonio. Randle participated in the 20th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships on Thursday at Greehey Arena on the campus of St. Mary's University. He made two dunks in the opening round of the 8-player contest but was unable to advance to the semifinal. Sonny Weems of Arkansas won the dunk contest, while Darnell Harris of La Salle won the 3-point competition. Randle then took to the Final Four court at the Alamodome on Friday in front of over 5,000 fans, playing in the DiGiorno College All-Star Game. The annual game, coordinated by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), featured 22 of the nation's top seniors split into two teams. Randle played on the American Team, directed by recently retired South Carolina coach Dave Odom. The American team fell to the National Team by the score of 106-100. Randle earned plenty of playing time, totaling four points and six rebounds. He had perhaps the best highlight of the game when he soared in from the wing and threw down a one-handed dunk off a missed shot, bringing the crowd to its feet.
