Champaign, Ill. - Illinois enters the home stretch of the 2009 men's basketball season contending for the Big Ten Championship with just three games remaining on the home schedule. Fans have an opportunity to buy tickets to two of those games when the 16th-ranked Fighting Illini host Penn State Wednesday, Feb. 18 and Minnesota on Thursday, Feb. 26. Around 1,500 tickets remain for the matchup against the Nittany Lions and 1,100 are left for the game against the Golden Gophers. The final home game of the season against Michigan State on March 1 is sold out. Price of tickets are $11 for UI students and $25 for the general public. All tickets are in C Section.
"Our fans have been outstanding, supporting the team and creating a great home court advantage all season long," said Head Coach Bruce Weber. "We have three home games left and each one is critical to our Big Ten and NCAA Tournament goals. There are tickets remaining for the Penn State and Minnesota games, and it would mean so much to our program to have those games sell out. Our players feed off the Assembly Hall atmosphere and that energy starts with the fans. We hope to see The Hall filled as we hit the stretch run into March Madness."
No. 16/18 ranked Illinois enters the week with a 21-5 overall record and 9-4 in the Big Ten, just one-and-a-half games behind league-leading Michigan State.
Should both games sell out and the Fighting Illini win both games, Coach Weber has agreed to let all the students in attendance be a part of a team photo with the Fighting Illini following the Minnesota game.
Tickets can be purchased in person at the Athletics Box Office located at the Assembly Hall, by phone at 866-ILLINI-1 or on-line here.
