    Illinois Quotes

    Senior guard Trent Meacham
On coming back in overtime to win the game...
"We just stayed together. We made some plays down the stretch and made our free-throws, it went to overtime and we just stayed together."

On looking forward to the rest of conference play...
"We'll be back in the gym for practice tomorrow. That's the great thing about the Big Ten. Every game is tough, especially this year. "

    Sophomore center Mike Tisdale
    On JaJuan Johnson's play...
"He's a great player, very mobile. He can shoot the ball, block shots and run. Just an overall great talent."

    Head Coach Bruce Weber
On big win for his team...
"Last year, we were in better shape at half time than we were this year. It was a boxing match. I just told our guys they are going to jab you and we have to jab back. We were lucky to catch them without Kramer at 100%. Last year, a lot of things didn't go our way. Tonight, some things did. Good things happen when you have a good attitude and stay determined. "

On biggest change in his team from last year to this year...
"Well, you know, since the beginning I've emphasized mental and physical toughness. We didn't have that last year. Now, we have to comeback and play another top 25 team [Michigan] on the road. It was a team win tonight. ."

    On JaJuan Johnson's play...
"He's made huge strides, him and [Mike] Tisdale both. They're getting stronger and more mobile. Both, are going to be forces down the road."

    Purdue Quotes

    Junior guard Keaton Grant
On coming close to winning several big games last year and now this year...
"I just try not to think about it too much. At the end of the day, it comes down to stops, and we didn't make them when we needed to. We shouldn't have put ourselves in the position to go into overtime."

On key factor to the game...
"They took care of the ball. They only made six turnovers and that was definitely a big positive for them."

    On Jajuan Johnson's play...
"He was very active on the boards, he was scoring, he was just very active. It was just ab all-around good game for him."

On the intensity of the game...
"It definitely felt like a mid-February game. It was very intense. Both teams wanted it and laid it all on the line."

    Sophomore forward JaJuan Johnson
On his final free throw attempt in regulation...
"I just wanted to hit it. I made the first. On the second, I felt it was going in. I went through my routine and it looked like it was on line. It just didn't fall."

On being 0-1 in conference play...
"Right now, we're 0-1. It's early though. I'd rather it be now then later. So many teams in the Big Ten are playing well; every team has to come out with their best game every night."

    Head Coach Matt Painter
On key factor to tonight's game...
"First of all, I think Illinois played a great game. Their ball control was the key to the game. To have 21 assists and only six turnovers is incredible. Also, we have to finish. Whether it's driving to the basket or on offensive rebounds, we have to do a better job of finishing at the rim."

On trying to win after having a chance to win the game...
"It's hard when you have a play to finish a game and don't then have to come out and overtime and try to win all over again. If not for [JaJuan Johnson], we wouldn't have been in overtime. His play tonight kept us in it. We scored the first four in overtime and then Illinois scored nine straight. It says a lot about Illinois. No doubt, it zapped us."

On Robbie Hummel's back injury possibly affecting his injury...
"He's been hurt for a while. It's part of basketball. They don't take a timeout for you in the middle of the season. Rob's a tough guy, he's going to go out and battle."
