CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Dee Brown scored 20 points, all in the first half, to lead Illinois to a 91-60 victory over Florida A&M on Sunday.
Brown finished 8-for-8 and had four 3-pointers as the Illini rolled to a 58-29 halftime lead. All five Illini starters scored in double figures en route to their second win in three days to open the season.
Florida A&M ended its two-game trip to the Big Ten 0-2, losing to Michigan State and Illinois by a combined 63 points.
Roger Powell Jr. added 15 points for Illinois. Luther Head scored 15, Deron Williams scored 11 and James Augustine added 10.
Williams added eight assists and Powell had seven rebounds.
After missing their first shot of the game, the Illini ran off 17 straight points, including 3-pointers from Brown, Head and Williams to take a 22-4 lead before the game was five minutes old.
The sharp shooting from behind the 3-point arc forced Florida A&M to play man-to-man defense and Illinois was able to establish itself inside with layups from Head, Powell and a dunk from Augustine during the early run.
Florida A&M found some renewed energy at halftime and came out of the break with a 15-4 run that trimmed Illinois' lead to 62-46 with 12 minutes remaining. But Illinois scored six straight points and regained control with a 31-7 run to rebuild the margin to 30 points, 83-53, with under four minutes to go.
The Rattlers were led by Glen Elliott's 15 points.
