CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Junior D.J. Richardson drained four three-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points to lead Illinois past Quincy, 73-45, in the Illini's final exhibition on Monday night. Eleven different Illini entered the scoring column, including three in double figures, as sophomore Meyers Leonard and freshman Tracy Abrams each tallied 10 points.
The Orange and Blue jumped out to a 17-5 advantage to start the contest and carried a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game. The Illini forced 21 turnovers for the second-straight exhibition, including 10 steals, and controlled the game around the basket, outscoring the Hawks 32-16 in the paint and holding a 54-36 rebounding edge.
In the first half, the Illini shot 46.7 percent and assisted on 10 of 14 field goals. For the game, Illinois finished with a 39.1 field goal percentage and was 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from beyond the arc. Joseph Bertrand and Myke Henry each notched eight points while Brandon Paul chipped in six.
The Illini will open the 2011-12 season against Loyola-Chicago on Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Assembly Hall.
