Champaign, Ill. - Illinois held its annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 6,144 at the Assembly Hall. The Fighting Illini played four, 8-minute quarters, with each quarter contested as its own game. The rosters also changed each quarter, allowing for a number of different lineup combinations (bee below for lineups by quarter). The Orange team won three of the four quarters, taking the first 26-21, the second 20-18 thanks to a game-winning 30-footer by Sam Maniscalco at the buzzer, and the fourth (running clock) 10-7. The Blue team, meanwhile, won the third quarter 14-12.
Meyers Leonard led all scorers with 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting, including a number of thunderous dunks. Leonard also grabbed seven boards. Maniscalso netted 17 points, with five of his six baskets coming from 3-point range. Tyler Griffey matched Maniscalco with 17 points.
Illinois is next in action on Tuesday, Nov. 1, facing Wayne State in an exhibition game at 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live at BTN.com
