Orange & Blue Scrimmage Recap

Illinois opened the season with its annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage on Monday night at the Assembly Hall. Coach John Groce had the Illini play four 8-minute quarters, with each quarter contested as its own game. The rosters changed each quarter, giving the staff a look at various lineups. The Orange team won all four quarters by the scores of 14-10, 16-5 and 14-13, and 16-9.
D.J. Richardson led all scorers with 18 points. He was 4-of-10 from the field, with two of his baskets coming from 3-point range. Richardson made a living at the free throw line, making 8-of-10 from the stripe.
Nnanna Egwu was active throughout the night, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Mike Shaw led the Illini in rebounding, totaling 11.
Illinois returns to the Assembly Hall court on Saturday, facing Lewis in an exhibition game at 7 p.m.
