CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Sophomore second baseman Pete Cappetta drove in a pair of runs with a base hit in the bottom of the fourth as part of a three-run inning that lifted the Blue squad to a 3-1 win and a 3-1 series victory in the five-game Orange and Blue World Series. The Blue bullpen rose to the occasion, with freshman Corey Kimes, senior Aaron Martin and junior Billy Barrett combining to allow just two hits in three shutout innings of relief work.

The Orange jumped on top with a run in the second inning when center fielder Willie Argo roped a leadoff double and scored after singles by sophomore first baseman Matt Dittman and freshman shortstop Josh Parr for a 1-0 lead.

After Orange starter Ben Reeser faced just 10 batters in the first three innings, the Blue squad got to him in the fourth. Junior first baseman Mike Giller walked and moved to third on senior right fielder Nick Stockwell's double. Junior center fielder Craig Lutes walked to load the bases and Cappetta drove in Giller and Stockwell with his base hit. Freshman catcher Adam Davis walked to reload the bases and junior catcher Chris Montgomery drove home Lutes with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Martin earned the victory after posting a scoreless inning of relief with one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Barrett earned the save despite allowing a leadoff single and a pair of two-out walks to load the bases in the fifth. He got out of the jam by inducing a ground ball to freshman Bill Charvat at third to finish off the series victory.

Offensively for the Orange, Argo was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run, and Parr reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch. Dittman and junior catcher Aaron Johnson accounted for the rest of the team's hits, each notching singles.

For the Blue, Montgomery doubled and drove in a run, and Cappetta was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Stockwell doubled and scored, and Lutes and Giller each walked and scored. Wikoff's first-inning single was the squad's other hit on the day.

The Fighting Illini will play one additional intrasquad scrimmage game Friday afternoon at a time to be determined.
