Baseball Alumni Game Set for Saturday

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The 2000 Baseball Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Illinois Field. The game will take place in the afternoon prior to the football game against Michigan, where the 2000 team will be honored for winning the Big Ten Tournament.
Several former Illini are scheduled to return, including reigning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Jason Anderson (New York Yankees) and former big leaguer Donn Pall. Other current pro players scheduled to return include D.J. Svihlik (New York Yankees), Craig Marquie (New York Yankees), Jon Anderson (Boston Red Sox), Mitch Walk (San Francisco Giants) and Dusty Rhodes (New York Yankees).
Other former Illini that will participate in the annual match-up with the 2001 Varsity include Brian Hecht, Rich Capparelli, Dan Humay, Tim Richardson, Joe Sprengard, Keith Toriani, Jason Wollard, T.J. Jackson and Mike Kraft.
Illinois is coming off a year that saw the team capture the Big Ten Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Regionals for the second time in three years. Returning starters include first-team All-Big Ten and freshman All-American first baseman Andy Schutzenhofer, DH Luke Simmons, catcher Jeff Gertz, outfielders Brady Ballard, Rob Fischer and Joe Parenti and pitchers Matt Vorwald, Andy Dickinson, Justin Olson and Ryan Kvasnicka.
