SAN DIEGO - Hey Illini fans, this is Chris Montgomery reporting from Southern California. Over the summer I have been playing for the San Diego Waves in the Western Collegiate League and have been able to accomplish a lot. Playing for the Waves has allowed me to stay closer to home (about an hour and a half away), so I have been able to keep in touch with old freinds and my family.

To start the season, I was able to play against fellow Illini Casey McMurray in a doubleheader. Mac's team swept us, each game by one run, but it was awesome to play against a teammate. During the game, Casey pulled a "top play" against me in which we robbed me of a base hit while playing second base.

Our team just finished up the regular season and won the Southern portion of the league, which earned a bid to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas. This is a big tournament that features teams from across the country.
