MADISON, Wis. - Hey, Illini Fans! This is Illinois infielder Brandon Wikoff reporting from Madison, Wisconsin. Daniel Webb is also up here with me and I think both of us would tell you we could not ask for a better place to play than here in Madison.
In my first year playing collegiate summer ball, I am thoroughly impressed with how unbelievable Madison is. We have a great group of guys here and are finally starting to play well. We had a very mediocre first half, but are playing our best ball of the season going into the final two weeks.
These last few weeks have been amazing for us as we have won 10 of our last 11 games and are currently two-and-a-half games out of first place. I have been playing shortstop every game for the last week and have also seen time at second and third base. Webb has been seeing a little time in the outfield, but he has spent most of the summer in the DH role. He's been one of our best hitters all summer and is swinging the bat very well.
We just got finished playing LaCrosse in a two-game series at home, which we swept. We were excited to play in front of our biggest crowd of the year, as we had over 7,500 fans against LaCrosse. We have a well-deserved off day Tuesday and before we welcome the Waterloo Bucks to Madison, where we will get to see two familiar faces in Illini teammates Scott Shaw and Mike Giller. It's always fun to play against teammates in the summer and we are looking forward to the series. Hopefully we keep playing well the last two weeks of the regular season and find ourselves in the playoffs competing for a championship.
That's all I have for now from Madison. Take care, and GO ILLINI!
