RALEIGH, N.C. - Illinois right-handed pitcher Lee Zerrusen (Teutopolis, Ill.) has been named to the Coastal Plain League All-Star team, the league announced. Zerrusen will pitch for the American team in the July 21 game that pits a "National" squad versus an "American" team. The Illini junior-to-be currently is tied for the CPL saves lead with 10.
Zerrusen has had a stellar first half of the season, going 1-1 with a 1.85 ERA and 10 saves in 18 appearances. He has allowed only six runs, five earned, on 11 hits in 24 1/3 innings with eight walks and 29 strikeouts. He has held opponents to a .138 batting average and has permitted only 22 total base runners in his 24 1/3 innings of work.
Zerrusen is the fourth current Illinois player to be named to a summer league all-star team, joining fellow Illini Mike Giller (Northwoods League), Matt Dittman (Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League) and Josh Parr (Prospect League).
