ABERDEEN, Md. - Former Illini pitcher Scott Shaw sparkled in his professional debut, striking out eight in four scoreless innings of relief Friday evening for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the short-season Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Shaw earned his first professional win with his impressive outing against the Aberdeen IronBirds, former Illini Kyle Hudson's team.

Shaw allowed just one hit and one walk over the four-inning stint, holding the IronBirds to a .091 batting average. He struck out the side in the seventh inning, his final frame, and three of his eight strikeouts were on called third strikes. Shaw's strikeout total bests his career high of seven punch-outs while at Illinois, which he set against Akron on March 16, 2008.
