June 18, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb announced the addition of Casey Fletcher to the Illini baseball program on Tuesday. Fletcher, who is a two-time NJCAA All-American, is from Oakwood, Ill., and will transfer to Illinois after spending two seasons at Kankakee Community College (KCC). He played multiple positions at KCC as an outfielder, second baseman and pitcher. Casey is the son and grandson of former Illini and MLB players Darrin Fletcher and Tom Fletcher, respectively.
He will join OF/1B Anthony Drago (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich HS), OF Alex Greer (Liberty, Mo./Fort Osage HS/Iowa Western CC), RHP/SS Matthew James (Normal, Ill./Normal West HS), OF/1B Pat McInerney (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Benet Academy HS) RHP/SS Ryne Roper (Harrisburg, Ill./Harrisburg HS), OF Dan Rowbottom (Broadview Heights, Ohio/St. Ignatius HS), and RHP/OF Cody Sedlock (Sherrard, Ill/Alleman HS) as the eighth newcomer set to join the Illini for the 2014 season.

Associate head coach Eric Snider on Fletcher: "Casey has a very solid middle-of-the-field approach. He can handle the bat and hit doubles to both gaps. He has the opportunity to hit in the top of the order and a chance to win a job in the outfield. He is a solid defender that can play infield too and has the versatility to plug a hole where we need him. He comes from a great baseball family with his father, Darrin, and grandfather, Tom, both being former players here. He will carry on that tradition and be a very good addition to our team."
