CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Former Illini pitcher Matt Milroy and center fielder Willie Argo have signed professional contracts after being selected during last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Milroy will forgo his senior year at Illinois to join the Miami Marlins organization, which drafted him in the 11th round last week. Argo, who has completed his eligibility, has signed with the Tampa Bay Rays, which picked him in the 22nd round.

Milroy will begin his professional career with the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jammers of the 14-team short-season A-level New York-Penn League. The Jammers' season begins Monday, June 18, when they host the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

Argo's first step on the professional baseball ladder will be with the short-season rookie-level Princeton (W.V.) Rays of the 10-team Appalachian League. The Rays open the 2012 campaign Tuesday, June 19, by hosting the Kingsport Mets.
