The Illini camp circuit begins with the complete skills event for youth ages 7-18, starting on Sunday, June 10, and ending Wednesday, June 13. Campers will receive instruction on all aspects of the game by the Illini staff that boasts 48 years of college coaching experience, with 30 hitting stations, extensive work on baseball fundamentals and special stations for pitching and catching.
Illinois' pitching/catching camp runs from Sunday, June 17, to Tuesday, June 19, with campers ages 12-18 receiving pitching instruction from Dickinson and Anderson, who have a combined total of 17 years of professional baseball playing experience. They will provide instruction in the correct techniques and mechanics of pitching as well as how to hold runners, improve pickoff moves and field the position. Dickinson and Anderson also will teach catchers at the camp the same fundamentals that the Illini catchers learn, a position of strength as four Illinois catchers have been selected in the first 11 rounds of the MLB Draft in the past 11 years.
The Illini hitting camp will run from Tuesday, June 19, to Thursday, June 21, with Snider leading the instruction for campers ages 12-18. He has guided Illinois' offense to a team average over .300 in 10 of the past 15 seasons and over .310 in five of the last eight. Snider also has installed an aggressive approach that has resulted in Illinois stealing over 75 bases in each of the last seven seasons. That has helped the Illini to two Big Ten championships in the last eight years and an appearance in the 2011 NCAA Fullerton Regional championship game.
Illinois' final camp of the summer is the evaluation/exposure event for youth ages 14-19 from Sunday, July 22, to Thursday, July 26. This camp is intended to provide opportunities for high school players to be oxposed to the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in high school, compete for a spot on a college team and prepare for a professional career. The entire Illini coaching staff as well as high-profile college and junior college coaches will be on hand to teach and evaluate campers over the five-day event.
