Hey Illini Fans,

After a trip to State College, Pa., our Big Ten record stands at 1-2. With the Iowa Hawkeyes coming into town this weekend we hope to get back to some winning ways and put ourselves at the top of the conference race.

The conference part of our schedule is my favorite part of the season. Growing up as an Illini fan, I would watch Big Ten sports every chance that I got. This has given me certain feelings towards the other teams in the conference and being able to compete against these schools as a member of the Fighting Illini is a real honor to me. Also, after last conference season, we are ready to show that we are real contenders for the conference championship.

The opening Big Ten home series is a great experience for us players. Even though this isn't technically our first home weekend, it sure feels like it. Our home opening series against Indiana St. was impacted by the weather and we were only able to play on Friday. Also the Big Ten Network will be televising Saturday's game, which brings a different atmosphere to Illinois Field. The weather is supposed to be great and we hope to see a lot of fans this weekend!

And make sure you pick up your set of freshmen baseball cards this weekend. Because they do not have any action shots to use, the freshmen pick their pose for their card. Some turn out to be (unintentionally) pretty humorous so don't miss out.

If anyone has any questions or things that you want me to write about send me an email at illinidiamondnotes@gmail.com.

That's all for this week, Go Illini!
