CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois's home Big Ten opener with Ohio State Friday night has been postponed because of bitter cold temperatures in Champaign. The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday consisting of a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning contest, beginning at 1:05 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader will feature a seven-inning game then a nine-inning contest, also starting at 1:05 p.m.

Friday's forecast game-time temperature was 34 degrees with 20 mph winds that would have created a 23-degree wind chill. Coaches from Illinois and Ohio State decided Friday afternoon that playing the game would not be in the best interest of the student-athletes from either school.
