Argo Named Big Ten Player of the Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Sophomore center fielder Willie Argo (Davenport, Iowa) was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday, Illinois' second weekly honor in the last three weeks. Argo was a key cog in the Illini offense over the final three games of its Spring Trip, hitting .636 with a 1.182 slugging percentage and three stolen bases. It is his second career weekly honor after being named Big Ten Player of the Week on April 27, 2009.
Argo, who returned to the lead-off spot against Bucknell on March 18 after a four-game absence, went 4-for-4 against Southeastern, knocking a double and a homer while driving in a career-high four runs and scoring twice. He also stole two bases in the game and drew a walk. The next day, he went 3-for-7 in a doubleheader against Dartmouth, driving in two runs and scoring twice while swiping a bag in game one and ripping a triple in the second game.
Illinois also announced a schedule change for Tuesday's game at Illinois State. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Duffy Bass Field, an alteration to the original game time of 6 p.m. The Illini then return home for their home opener against Chicago State on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on WDWS AM-1400 and streamed online at fightingillini.com.
