BRADENTON, Fla. - Well, we're enjoying a nice day off in Bradenton today, about 45 minutes south of Tampa. So far we are 2-1 with three more games to play. We were rained out against Vermont on Friday and lost to Jacksonville State on Saturday, but we've rebounded with two wins against Yale and Dartmouth. The offense exploded in those two wins for 37 runs, so hopefully that will carry over for the rest of the week. Mike Rohde had three doubles and six RBI yesterday against Dartmouth and Craig Lutes has hit two home runs in the last two games.
Since it's Spring Break, it's nice to be able to focus solely on baseball for a week instead of having to worry about classes and homework and everything else. We're staying at condos in Bradenton near the ballpark which are very nice. The condos have two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. It's four players to a condo so everyone is getting a chance for a week to live with some teammates that they don't necessarily spend an extended period of time with on a regular basis.
We had a light workout this morning and Jake Toohey pitched to hitters for the first time since having surgery for bone chips in his elbow. I think the plan is for him to get in a game in the next three days. We play Massachusetts tomorrow and then Dartmouth again on Thursday and Friday to finish up our week-long stay in Bradenton. We're looking to build up some momentum heading into Big Ten season. Our home opener is one week from today against Indiana State, so hopefully we'll see a good crowd come out to Illinois Field.
That's all for now. Go Illini!
