Rob Fischer is the Co-Big Ten Player of the Week

University of Illinois senior outfielder Rob Fischer was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week today, the conference office announced. The LaGrange, Ill., native earned all-tournament team honors at the Fresno State Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic last week after hitting a team-high .440 for the week.
Fischer led Illinois with a .440 batting average and impressive .848 slugging percentage. Of FischerŐs 11 hits, 10 went for extra bases. He entered the week with two home runs on the season and hit three at the tournament, including two in one game against Portland. In total, Fischer led Illinois in seven offensive categories at the tournament, including at bats (25), hits (11), doubles (3), triples (1), home runs (3), total bases (28) and slugging percentage (.848). He raised his batting average 100 points over the week, up to .333 after entering the week hitting .233.
This is FischerŐs first Big Ten Player of the Week honor and the first for the Illini this season. Illinois, 8-8 overall, opens Big Ten conference play this weekend against Michigan State. FridayŐs game one is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. while SaturdayŐs doubleheader and SundayŐs game four will both begin at 1:05 p.m.
