Illini pitcher Lee Zerrusen checks back in with his fourth Diamond Note of the 2010 season.

Hey Illini Fans,
Last weekend we traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to play in a tournament at Coastal Carolina University and came out with a 2-2 record. We started off slowly but showed a lot of improvement as the weekend went on. We were able to knock off the nationally ranked host school on Friday night with their All-American pitcher on the mound. This game proved to us that we can compete with anybody, anywhere. We are not playing to our full potential yet, but this weekend was a big step for us as our pitching, defense and hitting all took strides forward.
This week we travel to Winter Haven, Fla., for our annual spring break trip. We will be playing six games in seven days. During the trip, we stay in condos with six guys per building. It is a great place for us to grow closer as a team and to play a lot of baseball. Like last year, we will be playing most of our games in the old spring training home of the Cleveland Indians. We open up against Bucknell on Thursday in what we hope is a game that will set the tone for our entire week.
Spring break is usually a great time for the team. On the days we play games in the morning, we usually get the rest of the day off to hang out by the pool or with some of the families that made the trip. If we are lucky, Coach Ken Westray will give the pitching staff the privilege of seeing some of the fine soccer facilities in the area. Another reason I enjoy spring break is getting to see some of the guys who haven't had an opportunity to play much step in and take on a new role. Last year, for example, I got to make my first career start on this trip.
That's all for this week. We are off next weekend, but I will try to get a blog posted to give some insight about what went on during our trip.
