Illini Travel to Caravelle Resort Classic
Illinois will play in this weekend's Caravelle Resort Classic, hosted by Coastal Carolina. The No. 12 Chanticleers already have hosted three tournaments this season with their lone road game being a mere four-hour bus ride to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Wake Forest.

The tournament will mark the first time that Illinois ever has faced CCU or Lipscomb and the first time since 2000 that the Illini have squared off with Ball State. Michigan is the fifth team in the field, but the Illini will wait until mid-April to face the Wolverines, when they welcome UM to Illinois Field April 16-18.

    Illinois Against the Field
Of the teams in the Caravelle Resort Classic, the Fighting Illini have only faced Ball State prior to this weekend. Illinois holds a 5-1 all-time record, most recently defeating the Cardinals in 2000.

Dittman Starts 2010 with Hot Bat
Junior first baseman Matt Dittman enjoyed his move up to the clean-up spot in the Illini batting order to start 2010, hitting .667 (6-for-9) with a team high-tying three RBIs and four runs at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. He now holds a team-best .526 average with two doubles, four RBIs, and a team-best six runs and 3-of-3 stolen bases. He's hitting a whopping .667 (10-of-15) with runners on base and is 3-for-4 when leading off an inning. Dittman already has more than doubled his career stolen bases with that total, having swiped only two bags in his first two seasons of action.

Dittman started the season with a 3-for-4 outing against Notre Dame that included two runs, then went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs against South Florida. He finished the tournament with a 1-for-2 effort that included two runs, a walk, a steal and being hit by a pitch. He also had a big day against West Virginia to close out the Keith LeClair Classic, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.

    Strack Shuts Down Opponents
Sophomore pitcher Will Strack had one of the finest outings of his young career in the season-opener against Notre Dame, giving up just one run on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out a career-high six hitters and didn't allow a walk in picking up his first win of 2010. To put those strikeout numbers in perspective, Strack whiffed a mere 18 batters in 68 innings last season. He only allowed one leadoff man to reach base and held left-handed hitters to a 1-for-6 (.167) effort.

He kept it up against No. 19 East Carolina last weekend, giving up only three runs on five hits in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk. For the season, Strack has given up four runs on 10 hits in 11 innings while striking out 10.
