Champaign, Ill. - The University of Illinois baseball team will take to the road this weekend to host the inaugural "Illini Desert Classic" at Tucson Electric Park and the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. The four-team tournament is scheduled for Thurs., Feb 22-Sun., Feb. 25 and will feature Brigham Young University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Washington in addition to Illinois.

All games take place at the Kino Sports Complex, the spring home of both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox, and in the Diamondbacks spring training complex. Admission to all games is free.

The University of Illinois Fighting Illini Scholarship Fund is hosting a gathering for Illinois alumni and fans in the Tucson area just prior to Illinois' Saturday evening game against Washington. Alumni and fans are invited to sign up for the "Gathering in the Grove" beginning at 4 p.m. and hosted by Ken Zimmerman of the Fighting Illini Scholarship Fund. Director of Athletics Ron Guenther and head baseball coach Richard 'Itch' Jones will also be in attendance. Admission to the Gathering in the Grove is $10 per person and space is limited so to reserve a spot, contact Tiffany Vogt at 217/333-8851.
