CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois coach Dan Hartleb announced the addition of two student-athletes to the class of 2012 Monday, as infielders Richie Gorski and Zack Kolakowski will join the Illini for the 2012-13 academic year. Gorski is from Streamwood, Ill., and attends Streamwood High School, while Kolakowski is a native of Inverness, Ill., and attends Fremd High School.

Notes: Led the Sabres to their most successful season in school history in 2011, helping Streamwood to an IHSA Class 3A sectional championship and an Upstate Eight Conference title...Posted a .405 average, seven doubles, two triples, five home runs, 36 RBIs and 33 runs and notched a 4-1 record with a 1.91 ERA in 18 1/3 innings on the mound in 2011...All-Area and All-Upstate Eight Conference selection in 2011...Two-year starter.
Associate head coach Eric Snider on Gorski: "Richie is very athletic, has good speed and has a projectable body. He is competitive and has a solid make-up with good work habits. His soft hands in the field really stand out and he has outstanding arm strength. He knows the game and has a solid approach at the plate with some potential power as he develops."

Notes: Hit .342 with eight doubles, 22 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and only 10 strikeouts in 120 at bats in 2011...Helped Palatine's American Legion team to a state runner-up finish in 2010.

He has excellent speed and very good base-running instincts. He's a leadoff-type hitter, an excellent bunter, and is a hard worker with a high baseball IQ."
