Jeff Thomas joins the Fighting Illini as a volunteer assistant for the 2010 season. Thomas brings six years of professional playing experience as well as collegiate success during his career at Baylor.
Thomas was a pitcher at Baylor, earning letters in 1992 and 1993, and helping the Bears to the 1993 NCAA tournament. He graduated in 1994 with a B.S. in education. He then went on to play independent professional baseball from 1995-2001 before accepting a position as athletic director, teacher and coach at St. Austin Catholic School in Austin, Texas, from 2002-07. During that time, Thomas also managed a baseball academy in Temple, Texas, where Pittsburgh Pirate all-star Zach Duke was one of his pupils.
Thomas then became an assistant coach and pitching coach at Millikin University in 2009 before coming to Illinois. He currently lives in Arcola, Ill., with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Makenzie and Tanner.
