    Career Honor Roll - Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (3/17/03)

    2003 - Stepped into the role of staff ace at the beginning of the season and never let it go, posting a record of 3-6 with a 4.19 ERA • Finished fourth in the Big Ten in innings pitched (56) and was seventh in the Big Ten in strikeouts (36), both in league play • Recorded his first Big Ten win of the season against Michigan, a series in which Illinois won three out of four games • Threw 7 1/3 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking two against the Wolverines • Also won against Texas Pan American at the UTPA/Al Ogletree Classic, throwing seven shutout innings while allowing only five hits and two walks and striking out eight en route to Tournament MVP honors • Enjoyed a strong Spring Trip, earning a non-conference win against Ohio State after throwing five complete innings against Ohio State while allowing six hits, three strikeouts and one run in a game Illinois won 4-1 in seven innings • Led the team in strikeouts (51) and innings pitched (81) • Threw for the Quincy Gems of the CICL over the summer, earning CICL Pitcher of the Week honors once.

    2002- Junior college transfer contributed both as a pitcher and at the plate • Filled a spot in the Big Ten rotation all season • Threw game four against Iowa, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings • Threw seven innings in the series finale against Michigan State where he picked up the win and gave up only one run while striking out six in his best performance on the mound to date • Won Illinois' extra-inning game against Illinois State by throwing one scoreless inning of relief • Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his right field start at Indiana State • Threw a complete game against Purdue while giving up five runs • Pinch hit and scored a run against Western Michigan • Threw six innings while giving up only two runs and striking out five in his Big Ten debut against Indiana as he started game three of the series • Got his first Illinois win on the mound while throwing four innings of relief against UTPA in the series finale in Texas • Played for the Quincy Gems of the CICL over the summer.

    Prior to Illinois - Played one year at John A. Logan College, primarily as a starting pitcher • Went 5-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 68.2 innings of work • Threw five complete games in eight starts, including one shutout • Also picked up three saves out of the bullpen • Hit .182 in 19 games at the plate with one home run • Stole six bases in six attempts.

    High School - Earned six varsity letters at Dunlap: three each in baseball and football • Recorded 356 career strikeouts, including 145 as a junior • Holds seven individual school records • A 2000 all-state, all-area and all-conference selection • Earned all-area honors as a pitcher and third baseman as a senior • Also all-conference as a junior • Named to the all-tournament team at the 2000 state tournament • Played in the McDonald's All-Star game as a sophomore, junior and senior, picking up the win on the mound in 2000 • Was the starting pitcher in that game in 1999 while going 2-for-3 at the plate after closing the game and playing short in the 1998 contest.

    Personal - Parents are Larry Rowe and Mitzi Menold • Majoring in speech communications • Lists his earliest baseball memory as watching his older brother, Larry, hit a home run in a high school baseball game • Biggest thrill in sports is winning big games • Lists his father as the biggest influence on his athletic career because "he pushed me to not be satisfied with how I'm playing and to constantly improve myself."
