URBANA, Ill. – The 2016-17 Fighting Illini men's tennis team earned the ITA All-Academic Team award, the ITA announced on Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, a school-record six Illini players were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
To receive the ITA All-Academic Team award, a program must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or above. All varsity letter winners are factored into the team GPA for the current academic year. The Orange and Blue earned the award for the first time since 2013.
Vuk Budic, Zeke Clark, Aron Hiltzik, Alex Jesse, Noe Khlif and Pablo Landa were each named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Student-athletes eligible for the ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
